About the Role
This role is subject to BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) clearance - this post is subject to BPSS checks. You will therefore be required to consent to and comply with BPSS checking requirements prior to commencing in this post. This check involves verification of identity; nationality and immigration status; employment history (past 3 years) and basic criminal record check.
Reporting to the Head of Corporate Revenues, the successful candidate will lead and manage a team of around 30 staff responsible for all aspects of the administration, billing, collection and recovery of Business Rates in Manchester. As part of the Revenues Service's Senior Management Team, they will also play a major role in determining the strategic direction of the Service. They will be expected to maximise revenue collection but always be aware that businesses are going through difficult times and need support where it can be given.
Responsibilities will also include contract and performance monitoring and identifying and introducing new working processes.
About the Candidate
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an excellent knowledge of the strategic importance of Business Rates and the legislative framework within which it sits and be aware of the latest developments in revenue collection and recovery, both administrative and legislative. They will be equally effective working on their own and as part of a team and will have a track record of effective Team management behind them. They will be able to work on their own initiative, referring back to senior management only when necessary and will be able to show that they can effectively lead and manage change within their team.
